Light Truck Sales Reach 1.314 Million Units Jan-Aug, Up 6.2% YoY; Foton Retains Dual Titles in the Segment

2025 10/09

According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), in August, light truck sales stood at 140,000 units, up 1.5% month-on-month (MoM) and 5.5% year-on-year (YoY). From January to August, cumulative sales of light trucks reached 1.314 million units, a YoY increase of 6.2%.
By comparing truck sales figures, reporters noted that the MoM growth rate of light truck sales in August was roughly in line with that of the overall truck market, but its YoY growth rate was far lower than the double-digit growth of the overall truck market. Data shows that in August, total truck sales hit 272,000 units, rising 2.7% MoM and 17.1% YoY. From January to August, cumulative truck sales amounted to 2.393 million units, with a cumulative YoY growth of 4.5%.

Foton Leads the Pack; Great Wall and JAC See Declines

The "Top 5" players in the light truck industry—Foton Motor, Changan Automobile, Great Wall Motor, Dongfeng Motor, and JAC Motors—continued to exceed the 10,000-unit sales mark in August, firmly maintaining their positions in the industry's first tier.
As a leader in the light truck sector, Foton Motor has sustained its leading position with sales exceeding 30,000 units, relying on its multi-brand product portfolio including Aumark, Ollin, and Times. In August, Foton sold 33,812 light trucks, a YoY increase of 5.26%. From January to August, its cumulative light truck sales reached 292,034 units, up 6.22% YoY, retaining the dual titles (monthly and cumulative sales) in this market segment.
